You may be surprised at the quick and easy tricks you can implement each daily to keep your heart healthy.
1. Go Nuts for Nuts
Next time you need an afternoon or mid morning snack, reach for a handful of mixed nuts. They are rich in Omega-3 fatty acids (especially walnuts) and studies have shown that a handful a day can decrease the risk of cardiovascular disease by 21%.
2. Add Flax seeds to your breakfast
Like nuts, flaxseeds are high in Omega-3 fatty acids and have been said to lower cholesterol levels.
3. Meditate Daily
It's become known that meditation can help to lower blood pressure, making a considerable difference to stress levels and heart health. Start with 5 minutes of mindful meditation per day, and see if you can work up to 20.
4. Quit Smoking
According to the NHS, quitting smoking is the singular most powerful thing you can do to look after your heart. Although it can be hard, the power truly is in your hands.
5. Stay Active
Aim to exercise for 30 minutes, 5 days a week to keep your heart healthy and reduce the risk of disease. This is approximately 150 minutes a week of exercise at least. Try fitting this in where you can, such as walking or cycling to work instead of getting the train.
